About this piece
A round ceramic plate with a golden-yellow ground shading to brown, painted with two blue-and-orange birds, a birdhouse, and branches of pink-purple blossoms. Visible brushwork gives the flowers and foliage a textured appearance. The reverse bears the Blue Ridge / Southern Potteries, Inc. mark with “HAND PAINTED-UNDERGLAZE” and “MADE IN U.S.A.” A smaller code appears to read “11F,” and painted initials on the front appear to read “JWC.” The painted surface shows scattered losses and scratches, with wear around the rim.
