About this piece
A seven-piece serving set comprising one round tray and six round drink coasters. Honey-colored bamboo gallery rims frame glass-covered butterfly and botanical arrangements on a cream, lace-like fibrous ground. The tray pairs a large brown-and-cream butterfly with red, green and ochre fern fronds; the coasters feature individual butterflies in varied colors. Layered, bent bamboo bands and fine vertical splints form the open rims, with gently raised sections around their edges. The tray has a woven bamboo underside, while the photographed coaster underside shows a molded starburst glass surface. The decoration appears to incorporate preserved butterfly wings with painted bodies. Light rim wear and scattered dark marks on the tray underside are visible; maker, origin and date remain unconfirmed. Diameter: 11 inches Height: 1.5 inches
