About this piece
A deep, flaring porcelain bowl with three modeled karako children leaning over an iron-brown rim. The cobalt-blue exterior contrasts with a blue-and-white interior decorated with diamond-grid panels of pinwheel flowers surrounding a radial rosette of differently patterned petals. The applied figures have blue facial and clothing details, with decoration appearing hand-painted beneath a glossy glaze. A small circular foot surrounds the recessed glazed underside, which bears the brush-written mark 五良大甫 呉祥瑞造. This historical-style mark does not establish the bowl’s maker or age. The unglazed foot ring shows surface wear and discoloration. Length: 9 Width: 7.5 Height: 3.5
