About this piece

Pair of standing ceramic hunting-dog figurines with cream-white bodies, reddish-brown spots and feather-edged patches. Dark noses, red tongues and gold-colored collars with hanging loops distinguish the painted faces and necks. Each dog stands on an elongated, mottled-green rocky base with an integrated tree-trunk support. Their form recalls Staffordshire animal figures, but their maker, age and country of origin are unconfirmed. The recessed glazed undersides have small circular firing vents and no readable maker’s marks. One dog has a white spot where the brown paint has rubbed off. Extensive glaze crazing, rubbing to the collar decoration and wear to the underside rims are visible. Length: 5 Height: 5 Width: 2
